Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the Sister Study. Over 50,000 women joined the Sister Study, so we are no longer enrolling women whose sister had breast cancer but who have not had breast cancer themselves.
From time to time, some of our 50,000 Sisters may receive invitations from the Sister Study to participate in smaller follow-up activities on special topics. If you are invited to participate, please respond right away. Examples of some special topics currently underway include:
- What’s it about? Risk factors of young-onset breast cancer
- Who may be invited? Sister Study participants whose sister was diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50, her sister who had breast cancer, and any living biological parents
- What’s it about? Comparing information on early life exposures reported by both daughters and mothers.
- Who may be invited? Sister Study participants are selected at random to invite their mothers to complete a brief questionnaire
Young Women’s Breast Cancer Project
- What’s It About? Risk factors for young-onset breast cancer in the Sister Study
- Who may be invited? Sister Study participants diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50.
If you have not already been invited to participate in a special topic follow-up activity, there will be many ways to participate in the coming years!

- Other Cancer Diagnosis Package: Sister Study participants diagnosed with other selected cancers provide information about their diagnosis
If you have questions about any of the ongoing activities, please contact us by email at info@sisterstudy.org or by toll-free call to 1-877-4SISTER.
We invite all visitors to the Sister Study website to browse and to come back periodically to enjoy web site enhancements in the coming year.
The Sister Study is the only long-term study of women ages 35-74 who have never had breast cancer themselves but whose biological sister was diagnosed with the disease. It is a national study to learn how environment and genes affect the chances of getting breast cancer. A total of 50,000 women have joined the effort to find the causes of breast cancer.
Woman by woman…Sister by sister…
We
can make a difference!
